The Inner Artist

Come for a day (or four!) to explore your Inner Artist by diving into contemplative practice and creative expression. Each retreat will provide a rhythm of ancient spiritual practices incorporated with artistic response. Various media such as watercolor, collage, photography, and drawing will be explored.

We welcome all levels of art experience; just bring a desire to explore and connect with God. Join us in discovering how creating art can be a spiritual practice of embodying Imago Dei.

Each retreat day will have a different theme, honoring Celtic seasonal rhythms through the year.  So if you attend all 4, you will have a different experience each time.  Here is a brief overview of each retreat in 2019:

OPEN FOR REGISTRATION NOW: August 10:  "All Things Bright and Beautiful"  During the Summer retreat, we will play with watercolor or acrylics, and incorporate a fun method to create paintings of plants and foliage during this time of the lush abundance of Summer.  We will also explore how to recognize and nurture our own inner spiritual growth and fecundity.

OPEN FOR REGISTRATION NOW: Nov 9:  "Uncovering Beauty in the Broken" At the Fall retreat, we will explore the concept of wabi-sabi. We might do some mosaic work, maybe even shattering whole things to make the pieces for creating.

Of course, we will leave room for some changes to these ideas as the Spirit moves through the year, and as we are inspired to incorporate something new!

SOLD OUT. February 16:   "Exploring WORDS in the not-so- bleak-mid-Winter" At the Winter retreat, we will play with words, using acrylics with mixed media on canvas, with favorite hymns, poems, or scriptures.  We will also experience the traditional Benedictine practice of Lectio  Divina, and meditate on selected words throughout the day.   We will uncover the hidden growth that lies just below the surface during the Winter months.

SOLD OUT. April 13:  "Crafting a Personal Book of Hours" During the Spring retreat, we will introduce bookbinding/book making,  using painting/collage/drawing, along with poetry writing. We will explore the history of the Book of Hours, and the connections between our natural rhythms when unhindered by artificial light, and the invitation to develop a rhythm - whether keeping a traditional liturgy of the hours, or a modified one of 4. We will practice keeping some of the hours in community throughout the day as pauses in the work.
