Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, have mercy on me, a sinner.

These words from the Eastern Christian tradition have strengthened and comforted believers for centuries.

The words are similar to the blind beggar’s plea calling out to Jesus in Luke 18.

It is stated frequently: “God is closer than our next breath”
