Lectio Divina: Encountering the Word for Inner Transformation

A 3-day retreat on the ancient practice of

LECTIO DIVINA:
Encountering the Word for Inner Transformation

Join us for a transformative experience, suitable for both beginners and seasoned practitioners, facilitated by Ann Starrette and Nancy Bellamy.

Lectio Divina, a Latin phrase pronounced lex-ee-oh di-veen-ah and translated as divine or sacred reading, is an approach to Scripture that opens us to a life-transforming encounter with God. It refers to an ancient practice of the early mothers and fathers of the Christian faith, and it is a slower and more reflective reading of Scripture that allows God to address us directly, according to what he knows we need.

At this three-day in-person retreat, we will:

  • Experience the movements of the ancient practices of Lectio Divina (sacred reading) and visio divina (sacred seeing), which engage the heart, mind, and spirit

  • Seek to have the Lord awaken “the ears and eyes of our hearts.”

  • Taste and see how this Spirit-led exploration of the texts helps us move from an acquaintance with God to a transformative relationship with the Divine.

  • Practice opening ourselves to the Divine using a group model for Lectio Divina.

  • Explore various forms of encountering God through Lectio Divina, including reading prayers, poetry, songs, nature, and our own lives.

We have to learn to hear on every level at once if we are really to become whole.

The problem is that most of us are deaf in at least one ear. We have to learn to listen to Scripture. And we have to learn to listen to life around us.
